The Animal Services Section Of The Santa Ana Police Department Handles All Calls For Service Regarding Barking Dogs, Stray Animals, And Dead Animals
To report a dead animal, stray or roaming animals, or to file a complaint about an animal, contact Animal Services at (714) 245-8792.
Dog licenses are required in the City of Santa Ana. The Santa Ana License Section at City Hall handles requests for dog licenses. They can be contacted at (714) 647-5257 for more information. For your convenience, an application is available.
Services Not Offered by Animal Services Section
- Do not trap or transport wild cats (feral cats);
- Do not deal with wildlife (live coyotes, raccoons, opossums, ducks or ducklings, bird nests, bees);
- Do not transport live wildlife;
- Do not trap wildlife. (If you trap a wild animal, you need to release it per California Code Regulation 679 (4).)
Coyote Sightings or aggressive behavior:
- The Animal Services Unit can check the area where you live for coyotes running loose. To report aggressive coyote behaviors please call (714) 245-8792. Please leave a detailed voicemail and we will return your call as soon as possible. - California Fish and Wildlife will dispatch their wardens in case a coyote is involved in a bite on a human which rarely happens. California Fish and Wildlife wardens will trap, euthanize, and test the animal. The phone number for California Fish and Wildlife is (858) 467-4201. Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinics
The City of Santa Ana, in coordination with Vet Care Mobile Vaccination Clinics, is offering low cost pet vaccine clinics every Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm
No Clinics held on the following dates:
- Easter Sunday
- Any major holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday
Additional dates may be announced without prior notice

The Orange County Shelter has fees they charged the public when their dog/cat/pet gets impounded to the shelter.
Impound fee: $150.00 (Second Occurrence: $205.00)
Board/Care: $50.00 per day at the shelter
